So you think you’re pretty funny? If you have an excellent sense of humor that you feel is going unappreciated within the stuffy legal profession, you should apply to work for us here at Above the law.

But there are other avenues that comedically inclined counselors can explore. For example, you can ditch your Biglaw job to try and make it as a comedian.

Check out the latest installment of the Career Alternatives video series being produced by our friends at Bloomberg Law. It features a prominent comedian, one you may recognize from his many television appearances, who in a prior life worked as a lawyer….

Here’s the (very funny) interview, in which Lee Pacchia of Bloomberg Law interviews Paul Mecurio. Before he became a writer for the Daily Show, before he won his Emmy and Peabody Awards, and before he became a frequent commentator on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, Mercurio went to a top law school, did M&A work at a leading law firm, and worked as an in-house lawyer for a major investment bank:

Who knew that Jay Leno was such a mensch? Or how to get blood out of a Brooks Brothers shirt?

It’s an inspiring tale for anyone who currently toils in law but daydreams about doing something else. If you know of someone in such a situation, this is definitely a video worth sharing.
